Image: Grimlock has always preferred his dinosaur mode to his robot mode, and even in his new body he is no different. His fiercely taloned beast mode is a smooth silver raptor, speckled with shining black spots. He has Autobot-blue, lizard-slitted eyes in a precocious face. In his all-too-rare robot mode, he retains much of his Autobot demeanor. His face is the same black featureless visor it was in his original body, though it is now topped with the vauge remnants of a crown. His dinosaur legs become his arms, and he carries the glowing Sword of Grimlock in his clawed hands.
History: Most accounts state that the primitive Dinobots, an Autobot Faction, were constructed during the later Great War as a team of heavy-hitters for Optimus Prime's army. Their leader was the fearsome Grimlock, a trained warrior who took no prisoners and whose ranks had no room for the weak. Some accounts also state that it was this same Grimlock who created the supergenius Technobots, and this same Grimlock who once kicked Unicron in the rear just so he could live to talk about it.
Though the other Dinobots were killed during the end of the war, Grimlock, the strongest, still survived. During the first parts of the Great Upgrade, when many of the Autobots still living were made into Maximals, Grlmlock was one such experiment: an alteration that proved highly successful. Though much smaller now than before, and a smaller type of dinosaur, Grimlock had become more efficient, and had lost none of his legendary prowess and strength. When Ultra Magnus was killed long before his own upgrade could take place, Shockwave, his successor, still used Grimlock as a general and pawn. When he finally revealed himself to the Dinobot, Grimlock was initially angered, but, after being defeated by Shockwave, declared that he would follow the strongest leader, no matter who that leader should be. Now, Grimlock serves as one of the most feared and respected among Maximal generals, despite the fact that he is used more as a name and a warrior than a face or a tactician. Shockwave, however, occasionally calls upon Grimlock as an advisor, simply to point out obvious flaws in complex plans.
Roleplaying hints: Some of them think you're smart. A lot of them think you're really stupid. Who's right? Well, no one, completely. Though not possessed of the gift of soft-spoken expression, and certainly not high in the I.Q. department, Grimlock has the natural wit and instincts of a wild animal, and he isn't afraid to use them. He is rarely ever in his robot mode. Out of combat, he is most often friendly and childlike: he likes picture books, candy, and listening to long, pointless stories. In combat, he is more than deadly, and when he remembers to use his robot mode and his enhanced, legendary bladed weapon, he is almost unstoppable. Grimlock's stupidity translates into bravery; he's not afraid to dent his chassy or crash his ship, and he certainly did kick Unicron in the rear (it seemed like a viable tactic at the time...). Grimlock also has a tremendous ego. He knows he is the strongest Dinobot, knows he is the greatest fighter, and woe to any warrior who attempts to prove him wrong.
Grimlock's speech pattern is a deep, heavy smattering of improper grammar. It is not "I do," but "Me Grimlock do."
Timeline: Grimlock is mentioned in flashbacks several times in "Secrets of Cybertron," and is first mentioned by name in "The Movie." He appears onscreen for the first time in "Under the New Order," where he is seen guarding the Citadel gates. He displays his blade in "Conquerors' Glory," and has his first line of dialogue some time later, when he joins in the final battle against Unicron.
Device Notes: Sword of Grimlock: The Sword of Grlmlock is a unique five-point Device that belongs to Grimlock only. Its history is long; when the blade was taken from the Autobot Grimlock before his upgrade, it was reforged with a stranger shape and a somewhat darker purpose. It now appears as a Predacon Drill-bit Sword, six-tiered and created from raw blue energon.
The Sword of Grimlock acts as an Energon Drill-bit Sword, and follows the rules for both an Energon Saber and a Drill-Bit Sword. However, there are no penalties for weilding the weapon for any warrior tested and proven worthy to hold it. Any warrior that proves stronger than Grimlock (usually by besting him in single combat) may weild the Sword. It is a Difficulty 6 weapon, dedicated to Grimlock, which has a difficulty of 8 to strike the opponent's spark. The blade can cut through any object: armor is NOT added to the victim's soak roll. The weapon does Strength +4 damage. In addition, any time the blade strikes a fatal blow (doing four damage directly to a spark), it adds one automatic level of damage to its damage rating. Thus, it does Strength +4, +1 level, after the first kill; Strength +4, +2 levels after the second, and so on. After seven sparks are absorbed, the weapon no longer adds damage, but will always automatically kill upon contact with an enemy spark.
Once each day, the weapon must be energized with a point of energon from an external battery. The charging process takes a megacycle, during which time all sparks absorbed into the blade burn off into the Pit or Matrix. If the required charge time for the energy blade is ignored, the blade will not glow or have any special abilities uncommon to an ordinary Drill-bit Sword.
Any who have not proven worthy to use the Sword suffer 8 dice of energon damage upon contact with the hilt, as well as every level of automatic damage already stacked on the balde.
Weapon Notes: Grimlock also "breaks the rules" for the flame thrower: though he is not Transmetal, he can still breathe flame in his beast mode as he did in his old body. His flame thrower also has a range double the norm.
Quotes: "Grimlock STRONGEST of Dinobots!"
"Me Grimlock still KING!"
"Ooo! Me Grimlock remember this story! Once long time ago... Wait...how that part go again?"
Notes: Obviously, creating Grimlock was a study in compromise. Comic, show, or movie? Do I use that which I see on the actual action figure? Which one? I dropped the black and white dalmation look, and took a slightly larger class of dinosaur, though smaller than his original T-Rex, and kept the fighting style from the comic to add to the personality from the movie. Amazingly, no one argued, and it actually worked.
