Spark Location: Center body (bird)
Schtick: (Asterisked above) Stealth
Flaws: Obession (Never failed a mission), Mental, 2 pts.
Image: Laserbeak is a large, angular, falcon-like bird with a crest on his black head. His coloration is primarily red, white, and black, with some gold. He has yellow optics that constantly probe and scan his environment. Large engines ride on his back, and his white wings have been repainted with the new, Maximal symbol. He never speaks in his own voice, merely squacks; though he is entirely intelligent he is otherwise only capable of producing audio material he has already recorded. His alternate mode, of course, is still a giant red and white cassette tape.
Higher levels of Holographic Imaging are a brand new installation to the bird's body. Laserbeak uses this level of holographic disguise to appear as other types of birds or as flying dinosaurs, allowing him entrance to areas to which he otherwise might not be admitted.
History: A Decepticon designed for stealth operations, Laserbeak was part of Soundwave's original unit at the dawn of the Great War. Along with Megatron and Soundwave, he was among the Decepticons imprisoned in time on the Autobot Ark when it was stranded on Earth. When the Decepticons reawakened, Laserbeak continued to serve the cause, sneaking into even the most heavily guarded Autobot facilities and acting as Megatron's most trusted and loyal spy. Laserbeak's reputation was well-known, as Megatron claimed he was the only Decepticon who had never failed him.
After the Battle of Unicron in 2005, Laserbeak continued to be a valuable asset, though his loyalties now lie more with his original commander, Soundwave, than with Galvatron. During the decisive Battle of Iacon, Soundwave was destroyed. Many of his unit also fell, but Ravage and Laserbeak both escaped. While Ravage ended up siding with the Predacons, and even becoming one himself, Laserbeak continued to evade persuit. Records listed him as "Missing In Action," but he was simply waiting for the day when he would be required to make his report.
Lucky for the intrepid spy, it was Magnaboss' agents, and not Tripredicus', that finally located him. At great personal risk to the Maximal agents, he was apprehended in Polyhex (it took words from Shockwave himself to finally convince him to cross over the Maximal border). Laserbeak was brought before Shockwave, now leader of the Maximal government. The spy delivered his report on the Battle of Iacon, and Shockwave praised him greatly for another successful mission.
For the last fifty years, Laserbeak has been serving as Shockwave's spy and ally. Known and trusted by few, he works loyally for three: Shockwave, whom he recognizes as a Decepticon superior officer; Elita One, who treats the bird as friend and pet; and Darkwave, his original commander reborn.
Roleplaying hints: Laserbeak is tirelessly efficient. He does one thing, and he does it very, very well. He chooses well the most important detail in any scene, and is certain to record it. He is fearless, and relies on animal instinct as well as robot intelligence. He will not allow himself to be captured. If he allows himself to be spotted, it is for a good reason; by the time a target sees Laserbeak, it is already too late.
Laserbeak now takes orders from Shockwave first. He has grown used to the input of the Autobot female, and does not really mind that she treats him more kindly than his other masters, but he is always wary for her to make a fatal mistake. He is also loyal to Darkwave, but knows that he would be moreso if he were truly his old commander, and not his descendant.
Laserbeak has become fanatical about keeping his reputation. He has never failed a mission, ever, and should he do so, he is unsure what he would do with himself. Laserbeak will disobey direct orders if he believes that his own modified plan would allow him to achieve greater mission success. Laserbeak does not tolerate failure in his superiors, but until they fail, he will do anything to please them.
Timeline: Found fifty years before the start of "Secrets of Cybertron," Laserbeak perhaps served as Shockwave's spy throughout. However, he does not appear until the episode "Regret and Redeem," at the start of the fourth season. He serves as the liason between Darkwave and Shockwave, and as the bringer of bad news to many a Maximal under Shockwave's regime.
Mechanism Notes: As a drone force, Laserbeak can detach his main weapon (Plasma cannon) from his body, and send it off after a secondary target. It is equipped with a single rocket engine. It has the same stats as a Level One Drone (2 Dexterity, 1 Stamina) but cannot record video. It can only operate at a maximum of a half-mile radius from Laserbeak's main body.
Note: "Robot mode" statistics are for Laserbeak's bird mode, and "Alternate mode" statistics for his cassette mode.
