Spark Location: Left bicep
Merits: Misplaced Spark, Physical, 5 pt.
Image: In both modes, purple and black, with accents of blue and red. Epitaph's beast mode legs become his beast mode arms, and are still tipped with deadly talons. His pterodon face shifts down to his torso when he transforms, but the top of his head remains the same, resembling a wizard's cap. In robot mode, Epitaph often folds his wings around him like a dark cloak, and always carries his claw-edged staff. His spark is concealed in his left arm, which glows with purple fire when he activates his powers.
History: Epitaph was originally known as Dirge: a cruel joke of programming that called back memories of his ancient Decepticon ancestor. Like his namesake he was interested in exploring dark knowledges. Unlike any Decepticon, however, the young Predacon Dirge did not have the power to back his ambition. Dirge had a taste for "magic," in its purest form, and studied dark rituals, dabbling in Destruction-worship. His habits and physical weakness made him a subject of ridicule among other Predacons, especially since none of his "spells" had any real-world merit, or any effect. However, Dirge soon learned of a new technology: a technology that created real magic within the sparks of Cybertrons. Seeking out a path to becoming a Transmetal II, Dirge found the underground experiments headed by the newly formed Predacon Revolutionaries. The Transmetal II device was generous to the dark student. Dirge emerged as Epitaph, a vessel of mystical power. The Predacon commander was impressed enough with Epitaph's power to promote him to subcommander on the spot, where he would serve opposite the Transmetal Upgrade.
Roleplaying hints: Magic is a wonderful thing. Don't be ashamed to flaunt your power; you love it that others fear it because they do not understand. Make up interesting rituals to back your abilitiestrue, throwing fire from your hand doesn't require casting a spell, but it's more fun for you if you make a show of it. Seek to learn as much as you can about magic, religion, and the mystical arts. Power is the one asset you offer to the team.
You have plans to usurp Swiftsting eventually, and become the true Revolutionaries' leader. You are merely preparing yourself with your collection of knowledge. That brown-noser Upgrade is the biggest problem. If only that idiot was paying attention, he would know as you do that the commander doesn't even act of his own will anymore.
Quotes: "Transmetal II is more of art than science."
"I would destroy the humans, were it my desicion. But Upgrade, the coward, fears tampering with the past."
Timeline: A full-time member of Swiftsting's group, Epitaph first appears on the Revolutionaries' base, at the end of "Running the Gauntlet." When Epitaph is defeated by Upgrade in a command challenge during "Balance of Power" in the second season, he loses face among his team. Soon after, the truth about his past weaknesses is revealed. Epitaph is brought down a rank when he loses a challenge for Subcommander to the now TII Stahldrache, in "Plans Unfolding." Just after, Epitaph spends a brief time during "The Movie" as a vessel for Starscream's spark. He is killed in the episode "To Fall in the Fires," when the Maximal Starfire removes his left arm, the center of his well-hidden spark.
