Episode Eighteen

The Tempest

From the mountain tops, the knights pray for a safe journey home for the Maximal companions, and, at their behest, a friendly Roc arrives from the skies to take Paladyne home via air. Victoria uses the bird as a temporary mount, so that she can accompany the group to solve their woes.

Determined to discover the nature of the undead creature Moryth's power seemingly accidentally created, Scythe immediately takes the initiative to delve directly into the unconscious Predacon's mind, hooking his systems up to hers. However, inside he finds that her pschye is a twisted wreck of creatures and nightmares; he speaks with her mind, but is unable to extract any information before her inner demons chase him away. Snowshriek, angry that Scythe would take such Predacon measures of interrogation, pulls the plug on this endeavor, but hooks Scythe up for him to return to his original consciousness. The two begin a vicious argument the moment Scythe reawakens. Sometime mid-conversation, Shadowraith, Paladyne, and Victoria arrive. Having some experience with the undead, Victoria is certain that the creature the Maximals encountered, was, in fact, a wraith: a creature defeatable by the use of magic.

The Maximals know of one solution: they want to retrieve their portable prison from Falleen. Arriving at the kingdom of flowers, they visit again with King Lorimar and the court mages, and are provided with a magical door. When opened, it can lead to any one of five consecutive cells, depending on how many times the door is knocked. It leads to a black void if accessed incorrectly, though the court mages are not really sure if there is anything within this void, or not. The Maximals remain in the kingdom for a while, regaining their strength and renewing some of their friendships. Shadowraith is interested in learning to read a few of the world's native languages. Scythe does some research on possibly expelling the influence of the dragon which he fears may have overtaken his drone. Expelling the ghost will be possible, the priestess of Rayenelle says, but it may cost human lives in the attempt, and Scythe is not willing to take this risk. He decides he will have to limit how much he uses Hulk until a better solution can be found. Meanwhile, Paladyne and Victoria make a pilgrimage to the south, where Morynth's plague still runs rampant. Here, they work on tending the ill, and defeating some of the still-remaining zombie minions, though they have no further encounters with the lady wraith.

After a couple of weeks pass, the Maximals know it is time to put their skills to the test again, and capture another one of the Predacon pretender gods. Knowing best the location of the next female Predacon, the goddess of storms, Zerine, they fly their ship over toward her island chain. Snowshriek is sent as the air scout, to check for Predacon signatures. He does indeed lock on to the signal, and, despite the warnings to simply scout and return, he focuses on heading toward the temples, flying in through a raging storm. Here at the site, he spots a chain of ziggurats, with the head temple larger than the rest. He dives in for a closer look, and spots a small colony of druids, their magic causing the lighting and rain that comes dangerously close to striking the Maximal as he approaches. He Maximizes and dives into a sonic dash, scattering the ritual so the storm can slowly start to fade. Then, he tries to find an entrance to the temple. As he is flying, he hears a very obnoxious sounding voice on his radio: the goddess of storms seems to have the mindset of a spoiled child, and is mad that the 'mortal' is ruining her fun.

The Maximals from their ship lock onto Snowshriek's radio signal, and are a bit amused at the conversation that Zerine provides. While they continue to banter, Snowshriek manages to find the entrance to her very opulent temple, and delves inside the palace. Playing "tag," Zerine wanders through an underground chamber, into one of her personal pools in the temple chain. Snowshriek gives chase, and begins a combat with her in her native element. Though his first shot does hit home, as she begins to pour waves of water toward him, he finds that shooting her becomes a greater challenge…when, suddenly, she is lifted up into the air, by the tractor beam on the Maximal ship. Pulling her up in the waves of energy, the Maximals take her aboard, and, a venom dart from Scythe pacifies the temperamental child.
