The Maximals search through Wanderlust Pass, looking for a way to make some extra money. At the magic shop, they are able to get some gold for the scales and teeth of their white dragon, but not nearly enough to pay their debt to the dwarves. Apparently odd jobs are not the way to collect significant amounts of cash in this diversely populated city, but adventuring is always a possibility. The Maximals ask around for rumors in town, and hear a few. An ancient weapon buried deep beneath the earth sounds like a promising and interesting quest for Paladyne, but not directly profitable... The idea of an ancient wise wind spirit and a gate to his kingdom sparks Shadowraith's interest, but seems incredibly dangerous... But one of the most well-known adventures in these mountains is the ancient red dragon known as the Red Comet, a beast with an enormous horde of treasure that no adventuring party has ever been able to obtain. This plan seems dangerous, but it seems like a good one. The Maximals research the possible location of the Red Comet's lair, then fly their ship over the mountains seeking sizable caves.
Upon detecting the movement of the very large creature beneath one of the mountains, Scythe (with Hulk, of course), Shadowraith, and Snowshriek decide to investigate. The ship hovers above the entrance to the cave, and lowers these Maximals down inside. Within the mountain is the remains of a destroyed dwarven city, like an empty ghost of the Blackforge the Maximals visited only recently. Trying to be as quiet as they can, the Maximals head deeper into the dragon's lair. However, Scythe's drone is not exactly stealthy, and its heavy footsteps through the echoing halls of the cave arouse the dragon's suspicions. Meanwhile, Paladyne has located another entrance to the cavern, and instructs Clockwork to aim the ship in that direction. Reaching the smaller cave, he enters from this back door, hoping he can get to the dragon and distract him while his comrades explore. Unfortunately, a pit trap near one of the backup vaults delays him; though he is not trapped, he does not reach the dragon...
Before the dragon reaches Scythe. Angered at the invasion to his home, the Red Comet begins to attack the Maximals, breathing waves of fire toward the noisy lifter drone. The airborne Maximals sound a retreat, hoping to lure the dragon outside where the ship's weapons can really do some damage to his thick hide. However, the slow-moving Hulk distracts Comet, and he breathes another burst of flame, which is met with a choking blast of a fire-extinguisher from Scythe as he rides on Hulk's back. Now furious, the dragon attacks the pair, tearing Scythe in two and leaving Hulk a smoldering wreck while the other Maximals escape.
Still alive, Scythe does his best to hold the dragon back. When the other Maximals realize that the Comet is not following them outside as they'd hoped, Snowshriek and Shadowraith return to the cavern just as Paladyne finally arrives. Having no other option, the Maximals attack the Comet to try to save their friend. In the midst of the fierce battle, Snowshriek is nearly devoured, but manages to use his ice cannon to stop the dragon's breath. Shadowraith cuts into the beast with his magical sword, and Paladyne uses the power of his spark to finish off the beast. Having silenced the monster, but receiving wounds in the process, the Maximals return to their ship.
